DWU women drop GPAC match to Doane

CRETE, Neb. – Despite taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, Doane University proved to be too much for the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team on Saturday in Crete, Neb. Doane answered with two second-half goals to defeat DWU 2-1 in Great Plains Athletic Conference action.

 Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) scored the lone goal for the Tigers in the 16th minute off an assist by Stephanie Banvelos (Hayward, Calif.).

 Doane went on to score a goal in the 52nd minute and 70th minute to put the game out of reach. DWU outshot Doane 21-13 in the loss.

 Weidler finished with six shots, two shots on goal and a goal. Alexandria Jacobs (Niles, Calif.) and Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.) added three shots and three shots on goal, while Brittany Forsman (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had four shots and two shots on goal.

 Cristal Villalvazo (San Jose, Calif.) started in the net for the Tigers and tallied six saves.

 The Tigers finish the 2017 season with an overall record of 6-11 and a 1-9 record in GPAC play. DWU loses two seniors to graduation.
