FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team hit the road for the first time this season and handled Waldorf University 5-0 in non-conference action Saturday in Forest City, Iowa.
Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) began the scoring with a goal in the 21st minute, assisted by Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.).
Five minutes into the second half, Weidler added another goal to give the Tigers (1-1) a 2-0 lead. Weidler secured a hat trick in the 74th minute on a goal assisted by Stephanie Banvelos (Hayward, Calif.).
Freshman Marina Brightman (Earlham, Iowa) notched her first collegiate goal in the 86th minute to give DWU a 4-0 lead. Weidler capped off the day with a fourth goal in the 88th minute to give the Tigers the victory over the Warriors (0-2).
Weidler finished with four goals on six shots on goals, Brightman notched a goal on two shots on goal and four Tigers finished with two shots on goal. Both Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) and Cristal Villalvazo (San Jose, Calif.) tallied a save in the game. DWU finished with 18 shots on goal to two shots on goal from Waldorf.
The Tigers return home to take on Bethany College at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
