McPherson, Kan. – The Dakota Wesleyan University woman's soccer team scored four unanswered goals on the road to defeat Central Christian College 4-1 on Saturday in McPherson, Kan.
The Tigers (2-3) fell behind early after a goal from Central Christian in the 28th minute in the first half. But DWU would answer with a goal from Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) 10 minutes later in the 38th minute, as both teams headed to halftime tied at one.
The Tigers notched a quick goal in the second half as Marina Brightman (Earlham, Iowa.) scored 30 seconds into the second half. Five minutes later, Brightman tallied her second goal of the game with an assist from Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.) to make the score 3-1 in favor of DWU. The Tigers sealed the victory in the 72nd minute with a goal from Courtney Mascarenas (Pueblo, Colo.) as DWU went onto win the match 4-1.
The Tigers finished with 12 shots compared to Central Christian who had 11. Senior goalie Cristal Villalvazo (San Jose, Calif.) finished with five saves in the win.
The Tigers will open Great Plains Athletic Conference play against Dordt College at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sioux Center, Iowa.
