MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University woman's soccer team fell in their Great Plains Athletic Conference opener, 4-0 to No. 20 Midland University today at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
In the first 15 minutes, the Tiger (2-4, 1-0 GPAC) defense held strong, as Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Marina Brightman (Earlham, Iowa.) both tallied shots on goal. But the Warriors (6-1, 3-0 GPAC) scored in the 18th minute and never looked back enroute to a 4-0 victory.
Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) started the game in the net for the Tigers, notching three saves in the first half. In the second half, Cristal Villalvazo (San Jose, Calif.) relieved Bowes of goalie duties and also stopped three shots for the Tigers.
DWU will continue conference play at Presentation College at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Aberdeen, S.D.
