Tigers notch first conference win of season

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University woman's soccer team notched their first conference win of the year defeating Presentation College 4-1 Wednesday afternoon in Aberdeen, S.D.

 The Tigers (3-4, 1-1) opened the scoring with 13 minutes left to go in the first half when Josephine Bardsley (Tea, S.D.) scored on an assist from Alexandria Jacobs (Niles, Calif.) to give DWU the lead before halftime.

 In the second half, both teams got off to a slow start offensively until the Tigers struck with two goals within 20 seconds as Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) scored to make it 2-0. Marina Brightman (Earlham, Iowa.) added the third goal of the day to take a commanding 3-0 lead over the Saints (0-9-1, 0-6-1).

 Weidler later added her second goal of the game with an assist from Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.). Presentation added a late goal, but it was too late as the Tigers went on to take the match 4-1.

 Weidler led the offensive attack with two goals on five shots, Bardsley finished with two shots and a goal. Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) started in net for the Tigers stopping five shots from the Saints. DWU finished with eight shots on the afternoon.

 The Tigers will be on the road to take on College of Saint Mary at 1 p.m. Saturday in Omaha, Neb.
