MITCHELL, S.D. – Thanks to two first-half goals, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team defeated in-state and Great Plains Athletic Conference rival, Mount Marty College 3-0 Wednesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchel.
Marina Brightman (Earlham, Iowa) got things going as she found the back of the net off a deflection to give the Tigers (4-8, 2-5 GPAC) an early 1-0 lead.
With less than 10 minutes to play until halftime, Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) extended the DWU lead to two goals with a score of her own.
Midway through the second half, Brightman added another goal to push the Tiger lead to 3-0. The DWU defense was able to hold the Lancer (1-8, 0-6 GPAC) offense at bay throughout the game as MMC mustered just four shots in the contest.
Brightman finish the game with six shots, four shots on goal and two goals. Weidler added five shots and a goal, while Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.) chipped in seven shots. Cristal Villalvazo (San Jose, Calif.) collected three saves in the net for DWU.
The Tigers hit the road for a GPAC game against RV Concordia University at 1 p.m. Saturday in Seward, Neb.
