Late goals lead Northwestern over Tigers

MITCHELL, S.D. – Despite scoring an early second-half goal, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team conceded two late goals to Northwestern College in Great Plains Athletic Conference action Wednesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.

 The Tigers (4-10, 2-7 GPAC) seemed to control the pace of play in the first half as they finished the half with five shots and three corner kicks. However, neither team found the back of the net as the scoreboard remained scoreless at halftime.

 Five minutes into the second half, Marina Brightman (Earlham, Iowa) struck the ball and broke the scoreless tie, thanks to an assist by Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.).

 The Tiger defense held Northwestern in check throughout the second half until the Red Raiders (4-11, 3-6 GPAC) tied the game in the 73rd minute.

 Northwestern took its' first lead of the game with a goal in the 78th minute. DWU was unable to tie the game, falling to the Red Raiders on Wednesday night.

 Brightman led the way with a goal and two shots, while Wesley added a shot and an assist. Jocelyn Behm (Sioux Falls, S.D.) notched two shots, as Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) recorded five saves.

 DWU returns to the pitch against Doane University at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
