MITCHELL, S.D. – Regulation was not enough for the Dakota Wesleyan University and Doane University women's soccer teams as they were forced to play extra time. Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) ended the draw with a goal to push DWU to victory Saturday afternoon at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
Courtnery Mascarenas (Pueblo, Colo.) got the scoring started in the 23rd minute with a goal assisted by Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.).
Doane capitalized on a goal in the first half to tie the game. Both teams headed into intermission with the score tied, 1-1.
Neither team could find its offensive rhythm in the second half as the score remained tied after 90 minutes of play.
Following the first overtime period, the score stay tied. But, in the 102nd minute, Weidler notched her 13th goal of the season to give DWU the victory.
Mascarenas and Weidler finished with a goal apiece, while Wesley tallied an assist and three shots and Josephine Bardsley (Tea, S.D.) chipped in an assist and three shots on goal. Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) recorded seven saves in the net for the Tigers.
DWU takes on Briar Cliff University at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa.
