Hot start pushes Tigers past Warriors

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team scored two goals early on in the first half against Waldorf University that carried them onto a 2-0 victory on Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.

 In the opening minutes of the game, Josephine Bardsley (Tea, S.D.) found the back of the net off an assist from Alondra Partida (Salinas, Calif.) to give DWU an early 1-0 lead.

 Just over 10 minutes later, Partida found Bardsley for their second connection of the first half to put the Tigers (1-0) up 2-0.

 With 30 minutes until halftime, DWU held the Warriors (0-1) at bay to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room.

 With an entire second half of the game to go, the Tigers held their ground to keep Waldorf off the scoreboard and ensure the 2-0 victory.

 Bardsley led the way with two goals and three shots, while Partida added two shots and two assists. Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) recorded seven saves for the Tigers in the net, while Bailey Nester (Hartford, S.D.) tallied two shots.

 DWU hits the road to take on Bethany College at 12 p.m. Friday in Lindsborg, Kan.
