Women’s soccer splits in weekend road matchups

HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team traveled to Kansas for two non-conference matchups. DWU lost to Bethany College 4-0, but defeated Tabor College 1-0 in extra time Friday and Saturday.

In the first game of the weekend, the Tigers (2-1) struggled to find their offensive rhythm. The Swedes (1-1) notched the first goal of the game in the 30th minute. Just seven minutes later, Bethany College tacked on a second goal to hold a 2-0 lead at halftime.

The Swedes added to their lead with back-to-back goals in the 63rd and 64th minutes of the second half to down DWU.

Alondra Partida (Salinas, Calif.) finished with a shot and a shot on goal, while Cierra Asmann (Castle Rock, Colo.) added two shots. Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) recorded 11 saves for the Tigers.

The second game of the weekend was a different story for the Tigers. In the first half, neither team found the back of the net. Bowes tallied four saves in the opening period to keep the score deadlocked.

The second half spelled much of the same as neither team scored. In the opening minutes of the second extra time frame, Partida crossed the ball into the box, but a Blue Jay (0-2) defender deflected the ball into the goal. The Tigers won the game thanks to an own goal by Tabor College.

Partida finished with four shots and two shots on goal, as four other Tigers notched a shot. Bowes snagged six saves in the shutout.

The Tigers return home to take on NCAA Division II Black Hills State University at 5 p.m. Friday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
