MITCHELL, S.D. – After 90 minutes was not enough, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team and Presentation College headed to extra time. With neither team scoring in extra time, DWU and PC played to a draw in a Great Plains Athletic Conference match on Wednesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
DWU tallied five shots and a corner kick in the opening 15 minutes of play but could not score a goal. With the opening half coming to a close, the Saints (1-6-1, 0-4-1 GPAC) notched a corner kick and a shot, but the Tigers did not concede a goal as both teams headed to the locker rooms scoreless.
The Tigers (3-3-1, 0-2-1 GPAC) came out of halftime with another flurry of shots but could not find the back of the net. With regulation coming to a close, the Saints sent a shot towards goal but Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) denied the goal scoring opportunity. Moments later, Josephine Bardsley (Tea, S.D.) was fouled just outside of the box, setting up a free kick. However, Bardsley's shot was saved by the PC goalie to force extra time.
The Saints came alive in the opening extra time frame as they notched four shots, but never scored. The Tigers opened the second extra time period with a corner kick and a shot but could not score as the game ended in a stalemate.
DWU finished with 21 shots and 10 shots on goal, as the Saints tallied 10 shots and seven shots on goal. Alondra Partida (Salinas, Calif.) led the team with nine shots and three shots on goal, while Bardsley and Jocelyn Behm (Sioux Falls, S.D.) finished with four shots apiece. Bowes recorded seven saves in goal.
