DWU drops road battle with Lancers

YANKTON, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team battled in-state rival, Mount Marty College and dropped the Great Plains Athletic Conference match, 1-0 on Wednesday in Yankton, S.D.

 The Tigers (3-5-1, 0-4-1 GPAC) rattled off three shots in the opening seven minutes of play but could not find the back of the net. Alondra Partida (Salinas, Calif.) recorded a pair of shots that were saved in the 27th and 29th minutes. With neither team scoring, the teams headed to the locker rooms at a standstill.

 After eight minutes of play in the second half, DWU scored an own goal that gave the Lancers (3-2, 2-2 GPAC) a 1-0 lead. The Tigers tallied six more shots in the game following the goal but could not score as they fell in conference action.

 Partida finished with eight shots and five shots on goal, while Kindra Clark (Garretson, S.D.) recorded two shots. Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) notched three saves in the goal.

 The Tigers stay on the road as they take on No. 25 Midland University at 5 p.m. on Saturday in Fremont, Neb.
