DWU notches crucial road victory

FREMONT, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team picked up an important road victory as they defeated the defending Great Plains Athletic Conference champion Midland University, 2-1 Saturday in Fremont, Neb.

It was a slow start for both teams as neither team recorded a goal in the opening 40 minutes. However, Midland recorded four shots and a pair of corner kicks in the first 20 minutes.

But it was the Tigers (8-3, 6-3 GPAC) who struck first as Alondra Partida (Salinas, Calif.) sent a shot past the goalkeeper for the opening goal of the contest.

Partida struck again in the first 15 minutes of the second half with her second goal of the game to push the Tiger lead to two goals.

However, the Warriors (2-3-1, 2-3-1 GPAC) cut the DWU lead in half with a goal in the 68th minute. The Tigers fended off the late rally as they put away Midland to record their eighth victory of the season.

Partida led the way for DWU with two goals on two shots, while Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) tallied two shots. Alissa Betz (Bismarck, N.D.) snagged six saves in the net for DWU.

The Tigers hit the road again as they battle Presentation College at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in Aberdeen, S.D.
