Women’s soccer held scoreless versus Morningside

MITCHELL, S.D. –  The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team was held scoreless Saturday evening at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex as they fell 1-0 versus conference foe Morningside College in Great Plaints Athletic Conference play.

Both sides struggled to find any offensive rhythm early on trading possessions in the first half. Josephine Bardsley (Tea, S.D.) had a nice look on goal in the 25th minute, however, her shot attempt was saved.

Alondra Partida (Salina, Calif.) also had an excellent opportunity on goal in the 37th minute, though her attempt on goal was denied as well. The first half concluded with neither team finding the back of the net as the Tigers (9-4, 7-4 GPAC) were outshot 7-2 while Alissa Betz (Bismarck, N.D.) collected two saves from her goalie position.

The second half saw the Mustangs (6-1-1, 5-1-1 GPAC) notch the only goal of the match in the 47th minute taking a 1-0 lead.

Dakota Wesleyan had several chances to answer including a shot by Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) that deflected off the crossbar in the 76th minute. Seconds, later Bardsley sent another attempt just left of the goal.

Ultimately, DWU was unable to put together the tying goal giving Morningside the 1-0 victory. Betz finished with four saves while Bardsley and Weidler combined for five shots.

The Blue and Gray will conclude its season with a pivotal matchup with Briar Cliff next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. from the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
