
FOREST CITY, Iowa – Despite a 15-11 advantage in shots, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team was held scoreless, 2-0 versus non-conference foe Waldorf University on Saturday in Forest City, Iowa.
The match got off to a quick start with both offenses combining for five shots in the opening 21 minutes of action. Dakota Wesleyan senior Alondra Partida (Salinas, Calif.) attempted shots on goal in the seventh and 12th minutes, however, the attempts went wide left and wide right of the goal, respectively.
Midway through the opening period the score remained knotted at 0-0 despite a trio of attempts on goal by the Tigers (3-2-0). Partida, who paced the DWU attack with six attempts in the match, struck another pair of shots followed by a strike from Alyssa Crnic (Omaha, Neb.) in the 36th minute.
Crnic and Virginia Alvis (Golden, Colo.) closed out the first half with possible chances on goal, yet the score remained unbothered entering halftime at 0-0. Dakota Wesleyan held the slight advantage over the Warriors (2-7-0) 7-6 in shots at halftime. Getting the start at goalkeeper was freshman Hannah Trumbull (Casper, Wyo.), who along with the DWU defensive back line held the Waldorf offensive attack in check.
WU broke the game wide open early in the second period netting back-to-back goals in the 55th minute, taking the 2-0 lead.
Consecutive shots on goal by Madison Jenny (Columbus, Neb.) and Kamryn Harrop (Willard, Utah) in the 71st and 72nd minutes gave the Tigers a late chance at erasing the two-goal deficit. Yet, the Waldorf defensive unit held its ground and WU secured the 2-0 home victory.
In total, the Blue and Gray outshot the Warriors 15-11, including an 8-5 advantage in the second half. Seven different Tigers attempted a shot in the match while Trumbull notched three saves in the net.
DWU returns to the pitch next versus conference foe Hastings College at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in Hastings, Neb.
