WOMEN’S SOCCER BESTED BY HASTINGS IN CONFERENCE OPENER

HASTINGS, Neb. – In its first conference match of the 2021 season, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team faltered by a score of 7-0 versus conference rival Hastings College on Saturday from Lloyd Wilson Field in Hastings, Neb.

Back-to-back shots by DWU forward Kamryn Harrop (Willard, Utah) in the seventh minute gave the Dakota Wesleyan offensive attack the early momentum. Though, the Hastings' offensive unit responded quickly with a pair of goals in both the eighth and 19th minute and HC controlled the early 2-0 lead.

The Broncos (5-1-0, 1-0-0) added another goal midway through the opening period and held the three-goal advantage over the Tigers (3-3-0, 0-1-0).

Attempts on goal by Harrop, who led the Blue and Gray with three shots in the match, and Kazia Ohayon (Hartford, S.D.) late in the first half gave DWU a chance at trimming the HC advantage. Yet, both attempts were saved and Hastings maintained the 3-0 lead at halftime. At the intermission, both teams tallied three saves in the net while the Broncos held an 11-4 advantage in shots.

Hastings continued its offensive momentum into the second half with four more goals during the final 45 minutes of action. A pair of strikes on goal by Tiger senior Josephine Bardsley (Tea, S.D.) granted the Tigers the chance of getting on the scoreboard, however, HC ultimately held on for the 7-0 home victory.

DWU finished the match with six shots while freshman goalkeeper Isabella Gregg (Moreno Valley, Calif.) registered six saves.

Dakota Wesleyan returns to the pitch next versus Briar Cliff University at 2 p.m. on Wednesday from Faber Field in Sioux City, Iowa.
