BARDSLEY, TIGERS KNOCK OFF CONFERENCE FOE BULLDOGS IN DEFENSIVE MATCH

MITCHELL, S.D. – In a game that saw just one goal in favor of the home team, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Great Plains Athletic Conference opponent Concordia University on Saturday from the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D. Senior forward Jozy Bardsley (Tea, S.D.) notched the lone goal of the contest in the 42nd minute propelling DWU to the one-goal victory.

Both offensive attacks were limited to a combined 13 shots in the first period as Deandrea Johnson (Antioch, Calif.) and the Tiger (5-5-0, 2-3-0 GPAC) offense attempted to create a spark. Johnson struck a shot in the 4th minute of action, yet, the attempt was saved and the score remained unbothered early in the match.

Nearing the midway point of the first period, Johnson and Taira Shimata (Mililani, Hawaii) tested the Concordia backline, however, were denied keeping the score at 0-0.

While the DWU offense continued to piece together an attack on goal, the Dakota Wesleyan back line, led by freshman goalkeeper Hannah Trumbull (Casper, Wyo.) held strong on the defensive end. Trumbull, who received the start in the net, tallied three saves in the first period.

Unphased the Tiger offense broke through for the first, and only goal of the match in the 42nd minute. Bardsley found the back of the net off an assist from Kazia Ohayon (Hartford, S.D.) for her sixth goal of the season and DWU held the 1-0 lead heading into halftime. DWU held the slight advantage in shots at 7-6 at the intermission over the Bulldogs (5-3-2, 2-1-2 GPAC).

Alexis Thompson (Sumner, Wash.) opened the second period with a strike on goal while the CUNE offensive attack attempted to create the equalizer. Concordia logged 10 shots in the second period, including back-to-back attempts on goal in the 73rd and 74th minutes, though to no avail keeping the score at 1-0.

The Bulldogs tallied a late pair of shots with under 10 minutes to play as Trumbull and the Dakota Wesleyan back line stiffened any chance of a CUNE comeback. Trumbull finished the match with 10 saves along with the shutout as DWU secured the 1-0 home victory.

Johnson and Alondra Partida (Salinas, Calif.) registered two shots while Bardsley paced the Tigers with four shots and two shots on goal.

Dakota Wesleyan, finished with its three-game home stretch, hits the road once again versus conference foe Northwestern College at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in Orange City, Iowa.
