MITCHELL, S.D. – Winners of four of its last five, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team clobbered in-state rival Mount Marty University in Great Plains Athletic Conference play by a score of 7-1 on Saturday from the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D. Dakota Wesleyan, who tallied a season-high in goals scored in the home victory, secured its eighth win of the season.

Senior forward Alondra Partida (Salinas, Calif.) and the DWU offensive attack commenced the match with four shots midway through the opening period. Partida, who finished with four shots and three assists tying a program record for assists in a single game, provided the initial scoring opportunity in the 26th minute. The 5-foot-8 senior assisted  fellow forward Jozy Bardsley (Tea, S.D.), who found the back of the net and the Tigers (8-5-1, 5-3-1 GPAC) held a 1-0 lead.

Following a header attempt near the end of the half by Taira Shimata (Mililani, Hawaii), the Blue and Gray extended its lead in the 38th minute as Partida connected with Virginia Alvis (Golden, Colo.) for the 2-0 lead. Unphased, Mount Marty found the back of the net following a corner kick seconds before the end of the period. Dakota Wesleyan though controlled the one-goal lead at the intermission as the Tigers held a 12-3 edge in shots.

In the second period, DWU pushed the lead with a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes of action. Kamryn Harrop (Willard, Utah) scored off an assist from Kazia Ohayon (Hartford, S.D.) while Alyssa Crnic (Omaha, Neb.) capitalized off a feed from Partida. Shocked, the Lancer (1-12-0, 0-9-0 GPAC) defensive back line and company found itself trailing 4-1 after ending the first period with a sense of momentum.

Bardsley, who now sits with 12 goals on the season, pushed across two more goals midway through the second period while Isabella Veffredo (Placerville, Calif.) sealed the game with a score in the 84th minute. Running rampant and pushing across five second-half goals, Dakota Wesleyan cruised to the 7-1 victory.

The DWU defensive back line, engineered by freshman goalkeeper Hannah Trumbull (Casper, Wyo.), limited MMU to just five shots on goal in the match. Five different Tigers scored in the contest while six different offensive players finished the outing with 2-or-more shots attempted.

Head coach Clayson Glasgow and the Tigers conclude their three-game home stand versus Midland University at 1 p.m. on Saturday from the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D. as the conference game will be Dakota Wesleyan's final regular-season home match of the 2021 season.
