MITCHELL, S.D. – Right in the thick of a tight postseason push, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team held conference foe Midland University scoreless 3-0 on Saturday from the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D. Saturday's three-goal victory marked the sixth time this season Dakota Wesleyan has held its opponent scoreless while DWU has surrendered just two goals in the month of October.
The Blue and Gray kicked off the action in the early going following a shot wide of the goal by Midland. Senior forward Alondra Partida scored the initial goal of the match in the sixth minute off an assist from fellow senior Jozy Bardsley and the Tigers (9-5-1, 6-3-1 GPAC) possessed a 1-0 lead.
While the Dakota Wesleyan defensive back line suffocated the MID offensive attack, midfielder Kamryn Harrop added to the DWU advantage in 11th minute off a second assist from Bardsley. Harrop, who found the back of the net for the fifth time this season, granted the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
After the quick start to begin the period, both teams were unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the half and the score sat unbothered at 2-0. The Warriors (9-7-0, 6-4-0 GPAC) held a 7-5 command in opportunities on goal while Dakota Wesleyan freshman goalkeeper Isabella Gregg maintained the shutout at the intermission.
Head coach Clayson Glasgow and the Tigers wasted no time adding to the lead in the second period with a goal from Bardsley off the assist from Partida in the 56th minute.
Midland attempted to piece together back-to-back attempts on goal in the 68th and 69th minutes down by three goals, though, the DWU defensive unit held strong assisting Dakota Wesleyan to the 3-0 shutout victory.
Partida led the charge with five shots in the match as DWU ended the day with 10 shots while Gregg notched four saves.
DWU concludes the regular season with a pair of road matches beginning with No. 23 University on Jamestown on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Jamestown, N.D.
