DAKOTA WESLEYAN DROPS SEASON FINALE VERSUS MUSTANGS

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – In its final regular-season match of the 2021 season, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team fell by a score of 1-0 versus conference opponent Morningside University on Saturday from Elwood Olsen Stadium in Sioux City, Iowa.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Morningside, who opened the match with a multitude of shots, scored the first goal of the contest in the 27th minute and claimed a 1-0 lead.

DWU attackers Jozy Bardsley and Taira Shimata struck shots in the 39th and 41st minute, respectively, though both strikes on goal just missed high. The Mustangs (11-5-1, 7-4-1 GPAC) held the one-goal advantage at halftime while freshman goalkeeper Isabella Gregg notched four saves in the first 45 minutes of action.

The Tigers (9-7-1, 6-5-1 GPAC) commenced the second period with several chances to tie the match. Alexis Thompson sent a shot on goal in the 65th minute followed by an ensuing attempt by senior Kassidy Johnson. Yet, the score remained unbothered moving through the midway point of the second period.

Late looks on goal by Alondra Partida and Brooke Bullington nearly tied the match for the Blue and Gray, however, MOR held on for the 1-0 home victory in the final regular-season match of the 2021 campaign.

DWU ended the night with 12 shots including a pair of opportunities by both Partida and Johnson. Gregg meanwhile concluded the outing with eight saves on nine shots on goal.

Dakota Wesleyan finishes the regular season seventh in the Great Plains Athletic Conference women's soccer standings and will face Briar Cliff University at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the GPAC Postseason quarterfinals in Sioux City, Iowa.
