DWU WOMEN'S SOCCER HOME OPENER RESULTS IN HARD FOUGHT 0-0 FINAL

Mitchell, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan women's soccer team hosted Mount Marty University in the first home game of the season.  The hard-fought match ended in a 0-0 tie.  The Tigers sit at 0-1-1 on the season with the lancers at 0-0-1.

The game opened with an early corner kick opportunity in the 2nd minute for the Tigers with Isabella Veffredo taking the kick.  DWU recorded their first shot on goal in the 13th minute by Alexis Thompson but was neutralized by the Lancers goalkeeper.  Dakota Wesleyan's defense held strong in the first half by allowing the Lancers first shot of the game to come late in the half (28th minute).  Isabella Gregg handled the attempt and recorded her first save of the match.

Shortly following the Gregg save the Tigers were threatening again with a shot by Kazia Ohayon that missed wide right of the goal.  DWU would have another scoring chance with a shot on goal from freshman defender, Genesis Mendez but the shot was once again saved by the Lancers goalkeeper. In the closing seconds the Tigers would be on the attack again with another shot on goal by Ohayon.

The first half would have the Tigers producing four shots (two on goal) compared to the Lancers two shots (one on goal).  The Lancers would also be given two yellow cards during the half.

Second half would start the same way as the first with the Tigers getting an early corner kick chance in the 48th minute, but once again no scoring chance would show from it.  Mount Marty would record two shots on goal in the 57th and 58th minute both being swallowed up by Gregg recording her second and third save of the match.

Both teams would record a shot in the 61st minute resulting in Gregg recording her fourth save of the game.  MMU player would receive a red card in the 67th minute resulting in the Lancers to be down a player the remainder of the match.  DWU would immediately take advantage of this and record a shot on goal by Alyssa Crnic in the 69th minute but was deflected by a fully extended Lancer goalkeeper to keep it scoreless. Both teams would threaten one more time with shots on goal, but both attempts would be stopped by each teams' respective goalkeepers resulting in a 0-0 final.

The final stat lines would read the Tigers outpacing the Lancers in shots (9-7) with Lina Miranda, Ohayon and Crnic leading with two shots a piece.  Both squads would record five shots on goal and fives saves.  Gregg would record all five saves in the match for the Tigers pushing her total in the first two games on the year to 12 saves.  DWU would record zero cards in the match compared to the Lancers two yellow's and one red.
