How It Happened
The Tigers starting goalkeeper Isabella Gregg was tested right away to start the match, as the Bulldogs posted their first shot on goal after a minute and a half of play. CUNE posted a shot on goal again that was saved by Gregg, keeping the score at 0-0. After fouls by both the Bulldogs and DWU, only seconds apart, CUNE was granted a penalty kick which they were able to convert and take the 1-0 lead in the 12th-minute. The Tigers had their first look on goal late in the first half at the 42nd-minute mark from the foot of Deandrea Johnson but was inevitably blocked the Bulldogs defense.
Concordia came out in the second half strong over the Tigers, scoring their second goal in the 57th-minute to lead 2-0 over DWU. Dakota Wesleyan tallied just their second shot of the game shortly after in the 58th-minute from Johnson. The shot put the Bulldogs goalkeeper to work, as she made the save, keeping DWU off the board. CUNE put two more goals up in the 66th and 69th minute to lead 4-0 over DWU. Delaney Horan put her shot to the test in the 73rd minute but was saved by the CUNE keeper. The Bulldogs put one more goal in the back of the DWU net at the 79th minute mark as the Tigers fell on the road 5-0 to the Bulldogs.
Overall, DWU was outshot 18-3 in the match. The Tiger goalkeepers combined for five saves between the first and second half. Gregg was between the posts for 80-minutes as she tallied four saves on nine shots-on-goal. Taylor Stermon came in for nine minutes and 20-seconds, making one save on one shot-on-goal.
Hakari's Thoughts
"Proud of the girls for a strong first half. We dominated in possession through the first 45-minutes and were able to control the pace and direction of the match. The second half got away from us with fouls and mistakes; unfortunately, that's how the game works, CUNE was able to capitalize on our mistakes. Despite the result, I'm extremely proud of the outing we had today."
