
Mitchell, S.D – Dakota Wesleyan's women's soccer (2-5-0, 1-2-0 GPAC) underwent a tough 1-0 loss in a conference matchup with College of Saint Mary's on Sunday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex. Dakota Wesleyan showed determination despite the cold and windy weather with 11 shots on goal in the battle.
How it Happened – The Tigers started offensively strong to record two shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the matchup. The Flames responded quickly by gaining strong possession of the ball and recorded numerous shots on goal. In spite of the resilient offensive pressure, junior goalkeeper Isabella Gregg protected the net to keep the Tigers alive. The energy of the competition switched quickly as the Flames recorded the game's first goal in the 40' minute for a 1-0 deficit to end the first half.
Entering into the second half, the Tigers made the adjustments needed to put themselves back in the game. DWU gained possession of the ball quickly to record three shots on goal as they looked to even the score. Grit and resilience were shown in the second half with various fouls and a yellow card was handed to the Flames. In the last seconds of the match, Lina Miranda looked to keep the Tigers in the game, but the shot was saved by the Flames goalkeeper. Despite the aggressiveness and the 15 shots recorded in the half, the Tigers were unable to find the back of the net to be handed the 1-0 loss.
