Dakota Wesleyan's women's soccer secured a significant 3-1 victory in a GPAC matchup against Northwestern. The star of the game was undoubtedly Annika Enevoldsen, who recorded a remarkable first hat trick of the season.
How it Happened –
The Tigers started strong offensively from the first whistle to put pressure on Northwestern quickly. DWU broke the deadlock in the 14' minute as Esmeralda Guzman finds Enevoldsen who rapidly scored the first goal of the match. Dakota Wesleyan continued to put on the offensive pressure to keep the fiery energy and set the tone for the remainder of the match. Northwestern attempted to get on the board, but goalkeeper Isabella Gregg protected the net to keep the Tigers leading 1-0 into halftime.
Going into the second half, Northwestern was determined from the whistle and managed to level the matchup 1-1 in the 54' minute. Although, this did not slow down the Tigers offense as Annika Enevoldsen kept the pressure going on to score her second goal in the 77' minute to bring DWU back on top with a 2-1 lead. As the intensity grew in the matchup, Enevoldsen scored in the 83' minute to complete her first hat trick to give the Tigers a commanding lead of 3-1.
Dakota Wesleyan's defense held strong in the remaining minutes, denying any attempts from Northwestern to make a comeback. The Tigers solid defense played a key role in the win as Gregg secured 7 saves, denying any hope of a Northwestern comeback.
