TIGERS PICK UP BIG WIN ON THE ROAD OVER DOANE, 2-1

Crete Neb. –

DWU women's soccer team picked up their third conference road game win defeating Doane 2-1. Sophomore Annika Enevoldsen picked up where she left off at Northwestern and scored the first goal of this Tiger vs Tiger matchup in the first half. Deandrea Johnson, a senior leader on the team, scored the go-ahead goal to take the lead and the win away from Doane. The Tigers moved to 3-4 on GPAC play and look to ride back-to-back road wins into next week.

How It Happened –

DWU came off a huge win at Northwestern after a hat trick from Enevoldsen and they were hungry for more. DWU didn't take much time and were able to get on the board first from a shot and score from Enevoldsen herself in the 19' to take the 1-0 lead all the way to halftime.

Doane came out firing in the second half, as they looked to tie it up with the DWU Tigers. Goalie Isabella Gregg had been putting on a clinic through the first half, as she collected seven shots on goal to keep Doane off the scoreboard. However, in the 51' minute Doane was granted a penalty kick and the ball slipped just inches away from Gregg's outstretched hands. The score was all tied up at 1-1 and DWU had wanted that win. Deandrea Johnson would take a long ball all the way up the left side of the field and fire it right over the Doane goalkeeper's hands to take the lead back in the 62' minute. DWU's stingy defense would drown out any of Doane's scoring efforts. Gregg would grab two more saves and her defenders kept the ball out of Doane's possession for the remainder of the second half to secure the 2-1 win.

Up Next for the Tigers

DWU will be back at home to face Waldorf, a new GPAC opponent. The game is set to take place at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex at 7:15 PM on October 11.
