Mitchell, S.D –
The Dakota Wesleyan's women's soccer team engaged in a fierce battle against Midland University, resulting in a 0-0 draw. The significance of this matchup puts the Tigers in the #6 in spot for GPAC standings, positioning them favorably for playoffs. With only Jamestown and Morningside left in the regular season, the Tigers seek to secure a spot in the GPAC playoffs.
How it Happened –
The Tigers displayed strong offensive pressure from Sara Ewert and Hannah Petrucci to set the tone early in the matchup. Last week's GPAC player of the week, Isabella Gregg, made crucial saves to ensure that Dakota Wesleyan stayed on pace with Midland till the end of the first half. After several offensive opportunities from the Tigers, the score remained neutral into halftime.
From the start of the second half, the Tigers looked to capitalize on the same offensive pressure right away. A senior for DWU, Deandrea Johnson, received the ball in the 59' minute for an opportunity to get the Tigers on the board, but the shot attempt was saved by Midland's goalkeeper. Midland quickly attempted to get the first goal of the matchup but were stopped by Gregg who collected 10 saves in the shutout! Substituting into the game in the 62' minute, senior Jade Wesley, brought defensive energy to ensure the Tigers defense would hold off any Midland attacks. Throughout the second half, Dakota Wesleyan's defense stood solid against Midland's offense to keep the Warriors off the board. The Tigers attempted to reach the back of the net but were unable find the needed winning goal.
