Tiger Volleyball Splits Nonconference Pair

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team stepped out of conference play to take on Mayville State University and Peru State College in a triangular Saturday at the Christen Family Athletic Center in Mitchell, S.D.

The Tigers split the two nonconference games to move to 11-11 overall in 2015. The 11 wins this season are the most by a DWU team since 2009.

DWU opened the day with a three-game win over Mayville State, 25-15, 25-19, 25-17. After Peru State started its day by dispatching MSU in three games, the Bobcats topped the Tigers, 25-22, 25-9, 25-18.

Against the Comets, DWU got a match-high 16 kills from junior Lauren Tadlock (Rapid City, S.D.). Tadlock came into the match ranked 24th in the nation in kills per game. Junior Sammy Fluck (Becker, Minn.) added nine kills, while junior Dana Misiaszek (Mitchell, S.D.) chipped in with eight kills and 11 digs.

Junior Maggie Stehly (Sioux Falls, S.D.) continued to march towards 1,500-career digs with 20 on Saturday, including 12 in the win over the Comets. She has 1,480 in her career. Junior Michelle Van Epps (Lakefield, Minn.) had a match-high 40 assists.

In the closing match of the day, the Tigers got off to a strong start and held a 21-19 lead in the first set, but the Bobcats rallied to take the contest in straight games. The Tigers were led by Misiaszek with seven kills and 13 digs.

DWU heads back to Great Plains Athletic Conference play to take on Briar Cliff University at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa.
