DWU volleyball adds two wins on Friday, Frick records career high

OMAHA, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team picked up two more wins on Friday at the Flames Tournament hosted by the College of Saint Mary, defeating Waldorf University and Mayville State University in Omaha, Neb.

 Set scores against Waldorf were: 13-25, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-23. Set scores for the final game of the day against Mayville were: 28-26, 25-19 and 25-15.

 Despite dropping the first set, DWU topped Waldorf in the final three sets, defeating the Warriors for the third time this year. The Tigers previously defeated Waldorf in the Red Raider Classic and at home on Sept. 29.

 In the 11th game of the season, sophomore Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) had another career night after tallying her ninth double-double with a career-high 25 kills and 18 digs. Kimberly VanBockern (Arlington, S.D.) and Chelsey Heeg (Freeman, S.D.) added six kills, while Sara Herman (Reliance, S.D.) and Mallory Cooper (Orchard, Neb.) tallied 11 and 10 digs, respectively. Freshman setter Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.) pitched in 39 assists in the contest.

 It was all DWU in the final match of the day after battling to take the first set in extras, while limiting the Comets to under 20 points in the final two sets.

 Frick recorded 20 kills and 15 digs, while Emily Brunsing (Wagner, S.D.) and Heeg added nine kills. VanBockern tallied seven kills and Knobbe had 42 assists and nine digs. Herman pitched in 19 digs, while Cooper had 12 and freshman Darby Duncan (Mellette, S.D.) recorded 10.

 The Tigers (9-3) look for their 10th win as they take on McPherson College and Grace University in the final day of the Flames Tournament at 8 a.m. and Noon in Omaha.
