Tigers bounce in-state rival in four sets

MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's volleyball team made quick work on Tuesday evening to capture its 11th win of the season, defeating Dakota State University in four sets in Madison, S.D.

 Set scores were: 25-19, 23-25, 25-13 and 25-21.

The Tigers took set one after trailing 10-2 against their in-state rival. A kill by Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) put the Tigers back on top 11-10 and DWU never trailed again in the opening stanza.

After a hard-fought second set, DSU came out on top in a back and forth affair. However, DWU responded by putting the Trojans out of reach in the third set. In the finale, both teams used their offensive weapons, but it was DWU that came away victorious after being tied at 19.

Frick tallied a double-double with 18 kills and 15 digs. Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.) also added a double-double with 31 assists and 12 digs. Kimberly VanBockern (Arlington, S.D.) had 11 kills, while freshman Chelsey Heeg (Freeman, S.D) pitched in 10 kills. Sara Herman (Reliance, S.D.) and Darby Duncan (Mellette, S.D.) had 13 digs apiece.

DWU (11-4, 1-0 GPAC) welcomes Briar Cliff University for a conference battle at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
