Tiger volleyball tops Grace on Friday; drops GPAC match to Midland

OMAHA and FREMONT, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team went 1-1 over the weekend, defeating Grace University in four sets on Friday in Omaha, Neb. On Saturday, No. 9 Midland University swept the Tigers in straight sets in Great Plains Athletic Conference action in Omaha, Neb.

 Set scores against Grace were: 25-12, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-18. Set scores against Midland were: 15-25, 9-25 and 21-25.

 Against Grace, the Tigers tallied a .294 hitting percentage after allowing just 12 and 16 points in the first two sets. Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) tallied a double-double with 17 kills and 22 digs. Freshman Chelsey Heeg (Freeman, S.D.) added 13 kills, while Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.) had 50 assists. Freshmen Sara Herman (Reliance, S.D.) and Madlyn Christiansen (Omaha, Neb.) tallied 20 and 12 digs, respectively.

 On Saturday, DWU squared off with nationally ranked Midland University and dropped three sets to the Warriors, despite a late rally in the third set.

 Frick led the way with eight kills and seven digs, while Knobbe had 19 assists and Herman added 13 digs. Mallory Cooper (Orchard, Neb.) tallied 11 digs in the loss.

 The Tigers (12-6, 1-2 GPAC) takes on Northwestern College in a GPAC contest at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
