MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team got back into the win column on Tuesday night, taking down Mount Marty College in four sets in Great Plains Athletic Conference play at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
Set scores were: 25-16, 25-19, 18-25 and 25-10 in favor of DWU.
In set one, the Tigers scurried to a seven-point lead at 21-14 after an MMC error. Chelsey Heeg (Freeman, S.D.) and Kimberly VanBockern (Arlington, S.D.) put the set out of reach for the Lancers on back-to-back kills.
It was the same story in set two as Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) and Emily Brunsing (Wagner, S.D.) flexed their offensive muscles giving the Tigers a six-point lead heading into the third set. The Lancers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set to keep the Tigers at bay. However, it was all DWU in the final set, leading by as much as 15 points.
Frick finished with a double-double, recording 15 kills and 25 digs, while Heeg tallied nine kills. VanBockern added seven kills and five block assists. Brunsing had five kills and five block assists, while Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.) pitched in 35 assists and 22 digs, good for a double-double. Sara Herman (Reliance, S.D.) and Mallory Cooper (Orchard, Neb.) added 30 and 18 digs, respectively.
The Tigers (15-14, 2-8 GPAC) hit the road, taking on Concordia University for a GPAC contest at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Seward, Neb.
