
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team is in the midst of the best start under head coach Lindsay Wilber following a victory over in-state rival Dakota State University Wednesday night in straight sets at the Corn Palace.
Set scores were 25-15, 25-18 and 25-15.
With the score tied at five, the Tigers (5-0) put together a string of points to take a commanding 14-6 lead. DWU was able to put the Trojans (0-1) away early in the first set with back-to-back kills by Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) and Emily Brunsing (Wanger, S.D.).
After DSU tied the second game at nine, the Tigers regained the lead thanks to a kill by Sydney Fritz (Winner, S.D). DWU was able to put the Trojans away following a Frick kill.
In the third set, a Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.) kill and an error by the Trojans pushed the DWU lead to six points. The Tigers handled DSU for the remainder of the set to sweep the Trojans for the fifth win of the season.
Frick finished the game with 14 kills and seven digs, while Sara Herman (Reliance, S.D.) tallied 16 digs. Knobbe recorded 27 assists and Fritz notched seven kills and four digs.
The Tigers compete in the Corn Palace Classic against Sterling College at noon on Friday at the Corn Palace.
