Volleyball downs Lancers in conference action

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team got back to their winning ways Thursday night as they defeated Mount Marty College in Great Plains Athletic Conference in straight sets at the Corn Palace.

 Set scores were 25-19, 25-15, 25-14.

 The Tigers (11-3, 1-2 GPAC) began to pull away in the first set as they took an 18-10 lead thanks to back-to-back errors by the Lancers (2-8, 0-5 GPAC). In the second set, DWU jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. After leading 16-11, the Tigers went on a 9-4 run to take the second set.

 Mount Marty began the third set quickly after taking a 3-1 lead. However, the Tigers answered quickly as they downed the Lancers in the final set.

 Sydney Fritz (Winner, S.D.) led the way with 11 kills, while Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) added 13 digs and nine kills. Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.) tallied 23 assists, nine digs and three blocks, as Emily Brunsing (Wagner, S.D.) finished with six kills and 4.5 blocks.

 The Tigers take on Dordt College in GPAC action at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Corn Palace.
