No. 7 Warriors stifle DWU in GPAC play

MITCHELL, S.D. – In their first home game in almost two weeks, the Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team took on No. 7 Midland University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup and fell in straight sets at the Christen Family Athletic Center in Mitchell.

 Set scores were: 10-25, 17-25, 14-25.

After the Warriors (15-3, 7-1 GPAC) took the first set, DWU notched the first point of the second set after Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) tallied a kill. The Tigers (11-8, 1-6 GPAC) trailed 23-15, but two-consecutive blocks by Chaydon Metzger (Larchwood, Iowa) and Brittany Bergquist (Wolsey, S.D.) made it a 23-17 game in favor of the Warriors.

However, Midland would go on to take the second set. DWU was unable to get its' offense going in the third set as the Warriors downed the Tigers at home.

Frick recorded her 1,000th-career kill during the second set as she finished with 12 kills and eight digs. Mallory Cooper (Orchard, Neb.) tallied 10 digs, while Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.) recorded 18 assists and Chelsey Heeg (Freeman, S.D.) notched four kills and three digs.

The Tigers take on Concordia University at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Christen Family Athletic Center for a GPAC matchup.
