
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Despite taking the second set, the Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team could not pick up the road victory as they fell to Briar Cliff University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference tilt on Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa.
Set scores were 23-25, 25-16, 24-26, 21-25.
Trailing 24-20 in the opening set, the Tigers (10-2, 0-2 GPAC) reeled off three-straight points to pull within one. However, the Chargers (11-3, 2-0 GPAC) went on to defeat DWU in the first set.
The second set was all Tigers as they opened an 8-4 lead early on. DWU never looked back, taking the second set with ease.
BCU took an early 5-0 lead in the third set. But DWU would not be denied as they made it a 7-6 game moments later. The Chargers went on to win after a closely contested third set. The Tigers could not overcome the deficit as they fell in the fourth set and dropped the road contest.
Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) tallied 12 kills and 15 digs, while Mallory Cooper (Orchard, Neb.) added 22 digs. Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.) recorded 25 assists and 12 digs, as Jadie DeLange (Monument, Colo.) chipped in 10 kills.
The Tigers host No. 13 University of Jamestown for a GPAC showdown at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Christen Family Athletic Center.
