WILBER AND COMPANY REBOUND AT HOME AGAINST NO.18 DORDT

Mitchell, S.D. – No. 13 Dakota Wesleyan volleyball grabs GPAC win number seven at home against No. 18 Dordt. The Tigers tallied 52 kills and four service aces in the win to kick off their five-game homestand.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers fell behind early in the match, finding themselves in a 5-2 deficit early.
  • After DWU tied the first set at 7-7 and again at 8-8, Dordt went on several runs and eventually going ahead 23-16.
  • Starting the second set, Dakota Wesleyan's setter Madeline Else connected with Ady Dwight for the kill and the 1-0 lead.
  • The Tigers quickly jumped ahead to a 15-11 lead on a kill by Mackenzie Miller.
  • DWU did not allow a Defenders kill in the second as the Tigers to grab a set two win 25-16.
  • After not allowing a single kill in the second set, Dakota Wesleyan did the same thing in set three.
  • In the third set, Dordt hit -.056 as they tallied eight errors on 36 total attempts.
  • The final set, DWU went on a six-point run to take an 8-5 lead as Miller and Dwight were each credited with block assists.
  • The Defenders were able to close the gap on an attack error by Mariah Gloe, but the Tigers still led the four-set 10-9.
  • After a few smaller runs by DWU, and Taylee Indahl notching some kills of her own, the Tigers were at a 25-21 match point.
  • The final Dakota Wesleyan point of the match came at the hands of Dwight who notched the solo block to end the match and secure the 3-1 win.
  • In the match, DWU hit .258 with 52 kills on 132 attempts.
  • Dwight led the team with 19 kills and a .429 hitting percentage
  • Gloe notched nine kills and Indahl tallied seven kills with a hitting percentage of .467
  • The Tigers recorded 20 total blocks, six of which were by Dwight and four by Gloe.
  • Else recorded 44 assists of the 49 total team assists in the match.
  • Hanna Reiff and Gloe led the defensive effort with 22 and 11 digs, respectively.

Dakota Wesleyan volleyball continues their homestand tomorrow afternoon against nonconference opponent Mayville State. The Tigers and Comets will face off with the junior varsity squads beginning at 3:30 p.m.. The varsity teams will kick things off at 5 p.m. from the Christen Athletic Center.
