
Mayville, N.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball continues its great start to the 2022 season after grabbing a four-set win on the road against the Comets of Mayville State.

How It Happened:
- Mayville State got off to a quick start over Dakota Wesleyan after three service aces against the Tigers.
- DWU quickly responded in the opening set to close the deficit and bring it back to even at 9-9 after an Ady Dwight kill.
- After the tie, the Tigers went on to take the lead thanks to a 5-2 run that featured kills from Taylee Indahl, Dannielle Burns, and Madeline Else for the 14-11 lead.
- Throughout the middle part of the first set, DWU went on several more three-point runs, putting them up by as much as six during that time.
- The Comets came storming back, cutting the lead to two points forcing coach Wilber to take a timeout with the set point on the line.
- When play resumed, Dwight came up with the massive solo block to secure the opening set win 25-22.
- MSU started to dial in on the Tigers' game plan in the second set, earning a 9-6 lead early on four attacking errors by DWU.
- Neither the Tigers nor Comets could get a solid lead in the second set as DWU hit .127 percent and MSU hit .164 percent.
- After MSU regained the lead at 13-12, Else gave DWU a boost with a kill of her own to tie the game before the Tigers grabbed another kill from Abigail Brunsing, then a block from Brunsing and Dwight.
- Dwight, Gloe, and Else each tallied kills in the three rallies to follow, pushing the Tiger lead to four, 18-14, forcing Mayville to take a timeout.
- After MSU tied the game again at 19-19, it forced a DWU timeout.
- Once play resumed, Mackenzie Miller brought the game back even at 23-23 as the second set went long before the Comets edged out the Tigers 27-25, bringing the match to 1-1.
- Dakota Wesleyan put up 15 points before Mayville reached double-digits.
- MSU couldn't take the lead away from the Tigers, only hitting .128 percent with 11 kills on 47 attacks.
- DWU grabbed the third set win, 25-23, and led the match 2-1 as they headed to the fourth.
- Similar to the previous set, the Tigers jumped out to a hot start, going up 12-9 after several MSU serving errors and bad Comet sets.
- While DWU got a big lead thanks to bad sets and service errors from MSU, the Comets were able to climb back into the game, cutting the lead to one after the Tigers put up some bad sets and errors on serve receive.
- Dakota Wesleyan cleaned up play late in the final set, on a 6-1 run to grab the win 25-19 in set four along with the 3-1 match win.
- Overall, the Tigers hit .235 percent and held the Comets to a .169 hitting percent.
- Dwight led the team with 20 kills and a .395 hitting percentage while; Miller, Gloe, and Brunsing followed with 13, 12, and 11 kills each.
- Else racked up 59 assists in the four-set match, while Hanna Reiff posted 29 digs.
