How It Happened

The Tigers got running early in the match tonight, earning a 4-0 lead right away after kills by Mackenzie Miller and Madeline Else, followed by a service ace from Callie Slagter and a Doane attacking error. Ady Dwight started to stuff her stat sheet early with a kill before connecting with Mariah Gloe for the assisted block giving the Tigers at 6-2 lead. Later in the first set, DWU put on 9-2 run, earning kills from multiple different players as Gloe set the Tigers on top by 12, 22-10. The reaming three points needed in the set were all Dakota Wesleyan as Gloe and Emily Dale each tallied a kill along with an attaching error from Doane.

DWU got rolling again in the second set, but not as fast this time. After Doane jumped out to a 4-1 lead over Dakota Wesleyan. The Tigers began to get some momentum rolling again, putting together a four-point run to grab the one-point lead at 5-4. The next little bit went back and forth as Doane was able to hold the Tigers close. Once the score was locked at 10-10, DWU broke the cycle as Dannielle Burns went back to serve. Else connected with Dwight putting DWU up by one 11-10, then Burns followed that up with a service ace for the two-point lead. After a pair of attacking errors by Doane, Burns sent over another ace giving the Tigers a 15-10 lead. Dakota Wesleyan continued their run as Miller sent another kill down to the floor. Burns posted her third service ace of her serve rotation, that gave DWU a 17-10 lead. After the big run from the Tigers, the set went back to a battle as Doane attempted to climb their way back into the match but ran out of points as Dakota Wesleyan held too much of a lead at that point. The Tigers grabbed the set two win 25-16 and the 2-0 match lead.

Doane took the early lead in the third set, getting up 6-4 on an assisted block. The Tigers were able to battle back tying the set at 6-6, then taking a one-point lead on a Dale kill. It wasn't until the service error later at 13-16 when the Tigers went on their run. Once Tya Weideman stepped back to serve, DWU posted six kills, five from Dwight and one from Gloe; three Weideman service aces; and earning two points on Doane errors, setting them on top 24-16. Doane was able to grab two more kills in the match, before Dwight sent home the match winning kill for the 25th point and the 3-0 sweep over Doane.

Overall, the Tigers hit .226 percent while holding Doane to only .071 percent. Of the 39 total DWU kills, Dwight recorded 16, Gloe posted nine, and Miller chipped in with eight. Else grabbed 33 assists with two kills, seven digs, and one assisted block stuffing her stat line. Gloe also recorded 15 digs followed by Hanna Reiff and Weideman with 12 and 11 digs respectively.
