Sioux City, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers dropped a road GPAC matchup against the Morningside Mustangs in three straight sets. The Tigers held leads late in sets one and three but just couldn't come up with the points down the stretch to close the Mustangs out. DWU in set one had MU on the ropes with a 24-21 set-point lead, but Morningside answered with a 5-0 run to steal the set. Ady Dwight moved into second all-time in career kills with her game-high 18 kills. The Mustangs had no answer for Dwight with her 18 kills and .425 attack percentage but did a good job of shutting down the Tigers other options with the next highest kill total being five. The GPAC setter-of-the-week Kayleigh Hybertson backed that up with her 32 assists and 11 digs to record her seventh double-double of the season.
As a team the Tigers had a .160 attack percentage with their 40 kills and 17 attack errors compared to the Mustangs .301 attack percentage (5th highest Tigers have given up) and 55 kills which is tied for the most the Tigers haven given up in a three-set match this season. The Tigers had a game low .044 hitting percentage in set two, a set DWU played close early, but never led and ultimately got out of reach during a 7-0 run by the Mustangs after the score was tied at five all. In set three Dakota Wesleyan faced a big 18-11 deficit but showed grit and toughness clawing their way back with a 12-4 run to grab the lead late at 23-22. Morningside though would put three straight kills away to earn the 25-23 set win and 3-0 match win. Defensivley the Tigers had three players record double-digit digs with Tya Weideman leading with her 14 followed by Carlee Laubach with 13 and Hybertson's 11.
This is the first loss to the Mustangs since October 4, 2020. In the previous five matchups DWU is 5-0, while going 15-1 in set play during that span. Dakota Wesleyan won the previous matchup this season at home in four sets.
