MITCHELL, S.D. – Following his incredible career with the Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team, senior Ty Hoglund (Dell Rapids, S.D.) was named to the Academic All-America Second Team. The prestigious award for NAIA men's basketball was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday.
CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, as players are voted on exclusively by members of CoSIDA.
In order to be considered for this award, athletes must first be named to the All-Region Team where they need to hold a GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale. They must also be a starter or important reserve and participate in at least 50% of their team's games.
Throughout his career, Hoglund tallied 2,729 career points, 521 rebounds, 295 assists and tallied a field-goal percentage of 51.3%. His point total sits him in third on the program all-time scoring list behind only Alan Miller and Scott Morgan.
While his performance on the court has been impressive over the previous four seasons, his achievements in the classroom are just as impressive. Hoglund has a 3.59 grade point average as a business finance major.
He joins four other athletes on the second team, as there were five individuals named to the first team as well. Hoglund joins Zach Imig of Morningside College and Jackson Lamb of Briar Cliff University as the Great Plains Athletic Conference representatives.
