How It Happened
Dakota Wesleyan men's basketball struggled to shoot the ball in the first half of the game, scoring only 20 points after 20-minutes of play. The Tigers were not shooting the best going 8-of-33 from the floor, 2-of-18 beyond the arc, and 2-of-4 at the foul line. Jakob Dobney was the top scorer for DWU in the first half with only five points, while D'Andre Dennis grabbed a first half team high of five boards. The Tigers were outshot in the first half, allowing the Mustangs to shoot, 46.7% from the floor, 30% from distance, and 64.3% at the foul line while Morningside grabbed 25 total boards, compared to the 15 boards DWU grabbed.
Dakota Wesleyan improved in the second half compared to the first, shooting 51.6% from the field, 40% beyond the arc, and going 1-of-3 at the foul line. Samuel Aslesen came alive in the second half of the game, scoring 10 points on 4-of-5 from the field, and 2-of-2 beyond the arc. Blaze Lubbers and Aslesen both led the team in second half rebounds grabbing four each, as the team grabbed 15 total rebounds in the second half alone. Morningside shot well throughout the second half as well going 16-of-32 from the floor, 3-of-7 beyond the arc, and 8-of-11 at the free throw line, while grabbing 15 boards as a team.
Overall, DWU shot 37.5% from the floor in the game while the Mustangs shot 48.4% from the floor. The Tigers were outrebounded 44-32, outscored on points in the paint, 44-24, and points off turnovers 17-0. The DWU bench chipped in with 28 points compared to the Morningside bench chipping in with only 20 points.
