Lundy ties school record, takes second at BCU Men’s Spring Invite
NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D.– The 10 teams competing at the BCU Men’s Spring Invite had to play 36 holes in one day as the two-day tournament was condensed to one day. It did not phase the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s golf team and Bennett Lundy (Aberdeen, S.D.) as they took third place with a total score of 586, while Lundy took second place on Tuesday at the Two Rivers Golf Club in North Sioux City, S.D.

It did not phase the Dakota Wesleyan University men's golf team and Bennett Lundy (Aberdeen, S.D.) as they took third place with a total score of 586, while Lundy took second place on Tuesday at the Two Rivers Golf Club in North Sioux City, S.D.
The junior varsity squad also competed and took ninth after carding a 351 in the first round but bounced back to record a 335 in the second round.
With the final score of 586, the varsity squad finished just three strokes from tying the school record for lowest team score for 36 holes. The Tigers recorded a 299 through the first 18 holes and improved to notch a 287 through the second 18 holes.
Leading the charge was Lundy as he took second place. He tallied a 75 in the first 18 holes to sit tied for 12th, but responded with a 66 in the second 18 holes. Lundy finished just one stroke from first place and tied the program record for lowest individual score through 36 holes at 141.
Finishing just seven strokes back from Lundy was the duo of Devan Weelborg (Bryant, S.D.) and Tony Hayes (Sioux Falls, S.D.) as they tied for ninth with a 148. Weelborg carded a 74 in both rounds, while Hayes notched a 75 in the first round and finished with a 73 through his second round.
Freshman Jack Brinkman (Jackson, Minn.) followed up just one stroke behind the duo as he tied for 12th with a 149. He opened the day with a 75 and finished his day with a 74 through his second 18 holes. Senior Cade Carpenter (Mitchell, S.D.) rounded out the group as he took 27th with a 156 through two rounds.
Payton Phares (Rapid City, S.D.) led the junior varsity team as he tied for 30th with a 159, while freshman Carson Van Beek (Sioux Falls, S.D.) came in 40th with a 166. Gavin Zomer (Corsica, S.D.) and Jamie McGowan Jr. (White River, S.D.) took 42nd and 43rd, respectively. Zomer carded a 168, while McGowan finished with a 169 on the day.
Other golfers that competed were Nate Hohn (Parkston, S.D.), Wyatt Voelker (Newcastle, Wyo.) and Caden Jost (Hartford, S.D.).
The Tigers finish the season at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Spring Championships on Monday and Tuesday from the Dakota Dunes Country Club in Dakota Dunes, S.D.
