How It Happened
Tiger men's golf played similar scored in the two rounds yesterday, but it was Dohrer led the team after the marathon of a day tied for 37th. Dohrer kept is scorecard clean on day one, marking only one double bogey on hole 15. He was able to scribe three birdie shots on the first day. Cavanaugh after the first day was tied for 37th having a tougher time in the first round than the second. He scribed most bogey shots through his first 18-holes yesterday, before cleaning his game up and cutting eight strokes off his game in the second round of day one. Bettcher who was in 44th place after the first day played a solid first round, despite having a four-hole run of bogey shots. Round one he stayed away from any double bogey shots, carding a pair of birdie shots on holes two and 18. His second round Bettcher was in a tough spot-on hole 15 and 16 as he carded back-to-back double bogeys and adding one stroke to his game compared to the first round. Van Beek was also close to his teammates after two rounds, tied for 48th cutting a pair of strokes from his game the second time around the course. Van Beek posted a pair of double bogey shots in both rounds of day one along with a pair of birdie shots.
The cold and breezy conditions made for a tough final day of GPAC golf for the Tigers. Cavanaugh despite the weather kept his score like the second round yesterday, adding just one stroke. He was able to pick up a few more birdie shots in the final round while he grabbed par on five holes. Dohrer rounded out his GPAC Championship, shooting a little higher of a score than in the second round yesterday, with two bridie shots, after starting his day with a double bogey.
Bettcher and Van Beeks third round was a different story as they both added multiple strokes having to scribe multiple bogey and double bogey shots
The final day of the GPAC tournament was cold and windy all day with some rain as the Tiger men were on the back nine.
Pick's Thoughts
"Overall, I thought we showed some positive stretches of golf as a team, but at times we let some bad breaks get to us with bogey or worse shots. Cody played a solid tournament overall, especially in the final two rounds. Either way the guys battled through some tough conditions in the final round, and I think looking back at this season to look ahead into the fall, this will be a great building block for the guys in helping them be more confident and experienced heading into the fall."
