MILMINE SECURES NAIA ‘A’ STANDARD, TIGERS CONTINUE SEASON AT SDSU DIVISION II INVITE
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University track and field program continued its indoor season at the South Dakota State University Division II Invite on Friday from the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D. Senior Caden Milmine highlighted the competition with a season best and NAIA 'A' standard in the men's shot put while several other Tigers shined in their respective events.
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University track and field program continued its indoor season at the South Dakota State University Division II Invite on Friday from the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D. Senior Caden Milmine highlighted the competition with a season best and NAIA 'A' standard in the men's shot put while several other Tigers shined in their respective events.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Milmine, the throws specialist from Buffalo, Wyo. became the third Dakota Wesleyan thrower to register an NAIA 'A' standard on the season using a season-best throw of 51-8.5. Milmine swept all other NAIA competitors in the field and placed fifth at the conclusion of the shot-put finals. In the women's throwing ring, Lila Gronseth meanwhile earned a top-15 placing in the shot put with a distance 39-6.75 while also competing in the weight throw.
Fellow DWU senior Lia Guigui ended the day in a tie for fourth place at the conclusion of the women's high jump with a mark of 5-01 after three attempts at 5-03. Ryley Johansen cleared a height of 6-01 in his first collegiate high jump in the men's field as he won his flight and placed in a tie for 11th.
Elsewhere in the field events, Ashtyn Evans secured a top-15 performance in the triple jump thanks to a mark of 31-9.25 while Cale Strong recorded a leap of 41-5 in the men's event. Also racing down the runway, Taylor Pourier dialed a mark of 14-11.25 in the women's long jump.
On the track, Avany Long clocked times of 10.7 and 28.74 in the 60-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, respectively while Pourier crossed the finish line in a time 28.61 in the 200. Concluding the day, a trio of Dakota Wesleyan distance specialist battled in the men's mile led by Wyatt Baldauf (4:35.84), Hunter Shanks (4:44.04) and Caleb Sayler (4:47.82).
UP NEXT
The Tigers remain in-state for competition next as they will travel to the Mount Marty Invite on Friday and Saturday from the Ruth Donohoe First Dakota Fieldhouse in Yankton, S.D. A start time has yet to be announced for either day.
