Trio of Tigers shine at Concordia Twilight Meet, Guigui secures national qualifying mark
Seward, Neb. – Competing in the final meet of the 2021 outdoor season before the NAIA National Championships, a trio of Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field athletes notched top-5 finishes at the Concordia University Twilight Meet in Seward, Neb., including Lia Guigui (Rapid City, S.D.) who recorded a national qualifying mark in the high jump.
Seward, Neb. – Competing in the final meet of the 2021 outdoor season before the NAIA National Championships, a trio of Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field athletes notched top-5 finishes at the Concordia University Twilight Meet in Seward, Neb., including Lia Guigui (Rapid City, S.D.) who recorded a national qualifying mark in the high jump.
The Dakota Wesleyan senior jumps specialist registered a height of 5-4.5 feet (1.64m) as she placed fifth and acquired the NAIA 'B' standard in the event. A season best, her mark of 5-4.5 feet is ranked second all-time in program history.
Fellow DWU jumps specialist Lydia Gerber (Canton, S.D.) continued her strong senior campaign as she swept the field in the triple jump. Gerber claimed the event title with a leap of 37-9.5 feet (11.52m) and has also previously cleared the NAIA 'B' standard with a distance of 37-11.5 feet (11.57m) in the event.
Rounding out the top-5 finishes for the Tigers, Caden Milmine (Buffalo, Wyo.) dialed a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 51-4.5 feet (15.64m). The DWU throws specialist cleared both the NAIA 'A' and 'B' standards earlier this season with a mark of 53-3.75 feet (16.25m).
Other Tigers competing were Morgan Taft (Norris, S.D.) in the hammer throw, Katlyn Briggs (Plankinton, S.D.) in the discus and Lila Gronseth (Sargeant, Minn.) in both the shot put and discus. The minimum mark needed for all official marks and results in the throwing events was the NAIA 'B' standard.
The Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams will conclude the 2021 outdoor season at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday, May 26th through Friday, May 28th from Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.
