Tiger track and field has good showing at first-ever home open

MITCHELL, S.D. – It was a day for the record books as the Dakota Wesleyan University track and field teams hosted its first annual DWU Alumni Open on Saturday in Mitchell.
The Tigers saw many top-10 finishes, highlighted by a first-place finish by Kristen Longville (Lake Preston, S.D.) in the triple jump with a leap of 10.85 meters. Longville also competed in the long jump and secured seventh place with a leap of 4.98 meters. Sophomore Kamberlyn Lamer (Hartford, S.D.) picked up a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.47 meters. Lamer also competed in the high jump and finished in eighth place with a jump of 1.40 meters. In the 60-meter hurdles, Lamer added a fourth-place finish with a time of 9.54. In the long jump, Lamer finished in third with a jump of 5.19 meters.
Two-sport athlete Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had a good showing in her first year as a Tiger. She tallied a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.02 meters, while crossing the finish line in 8.02 in the 60-meter dash, good for third place. Fellow freshman Kaylynn Anziano (Rapid City, S.D.) finished in eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.28. In the 400-meter dash, Anziano tallied a fourth-place finish in 1:01.62. Junior Shailhyn Schweigert (Burke, S.D.) came in eighth in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:47.33, while freshman McKenna Rogers (Saint Michael, Minn.) secured eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:28.70. In the women's shot put, Kristen Jennings (Canton, S.D.) added an 11th-place finish with a toss of 10.51 meters.
On the men's side, Nick Raab (Yankton, S.D.) finished in 10th-place in the shot put with a toss of 12.50 meters, while adding a 15th-place finish in the weight throw with a throw of 11.49 meters. Freshman Darius Norwood (White Lake, S.D.) had a toss of 11.62 meters, good for 14th-place. Freshmen Ryan Chase (Huron, S.D.) finished in ninth with a time of 17:10.44 in the 5000-meter run, while Rex Schlicht (Woonsocket, S.D.) came in third in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:24.86. Jon Harmening (Jackson, Minn.) took home a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.01, while Dakota Bodden (Tabor, S.D.) finished in fifth in 8.99. Harmening also came in third in the triple jump with a leap of 12.51 meters. Junior Jeremiah Panec (Kenesaw, Neb.) finished in fourth in the mile in 4:30.72. Senior Gabe Dirksen (Lead, S.D.) finished in fourth place in the pole vault in 3.53 meters, while also finishing in 10th-place in the long jump with a leap of 5.65 meters. Freshman Jared Rabenberg (Britton, S.D.) took home a second-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.94 meters. Anthony Fontenot (Stephan, S.D.) added an eigth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.20. Both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams finished in sixth-place.
DWU had nine alumni compete in the DWU Alumni Mile.
The Tigers compete in the SDSU Classic on Friday and Saturday in Brookings, S.D.
