DWU wraps up Tucson Invitational with GPAC doubleheader

In the opening game of the day, the Tigers (5-10, 0-2 GPAC) fell to the Jimmies (17-5, 2-0 GPAC) 8-0.
UJ opened the game with a five-run bottom half of the first inning to take an early lead. The Tigers could only record two hits over the next three innings, until the Jimmies tacked on another run to push their lead to six runs.
DWU could not record a run in the game, as UJ added a pair of runs in the sixth frame to take the opening game.
Drew DeMers (Winner, S.D.), Chandler Bakley (Martin, S.D.) and Caleb Johnson (Ridgecrest, Calif.) tallied the three hits for the Tigers in the contest. Ethan Davis (Billings, Mont.) was tabbed with the loss on the mound after pitching the complete game, striking out eight batters.
The Tigers dropped the second game of the day by a score of 7-1.
After a scoreless first inning, the Jimmies notched five runs in the second frame to open the lead. Neither team could muster a run over the following three innings, until UJ scored a run in the sixth and seventh frames. With one inning to go, Cameron Quigley (Newcastle, Wyo.) scored on a wild throw by UJ to tally the lone run of the day.
Quigley finished 1-for-4 with a run scored, as Joe Hanisch (Hartford, S.D.) went 1-for-2 at the plate. Dominique Boerger (Milbank, S.D.) pitched six innings and struck out five batters in the loss.
