No. 17 Northwestern halts DWU in second half

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – With the lead in hand at halftime, the No. 17 Northwestern College Red Raiders blanked the Dakota Wesleyan University football team in the second half to defeat the Tigers 29-10 in Great Plains Athletic Conference action Saturday in Orange City, Iowa.

 The Tigers were first on the scoreboard after an eight-play 22-yard drive when freshman Seth Paulson (Mitchell, S.D.) found the uprights on a 21-yard field goal with six seconds remaining in the first quarter.

 Northwestern (6-1, 4-1 GPAC) quickly responded at the nine-minute mark in the second quarter on a seven-play 58-yard drive. However, the Tigers found the endzone to close out the first half when senior quarterback Dillon Turner (Salem, Ark.) scampered on a 29-yard touchdown run to take a 10-7 lead into the locker room.

 It was all Red Raiders in the second half, scoring in the third quarter and twice in the fourth quarter to hold off the high-potent Tiger offense.

 Northwestern tallied 453 yards of offense compared to 395 yards by the Tigers.

 Turner completed 20 passes on 41 attempts for 160 yards and two interceptions. He also rushed for 152 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown. Luke Loudenburg (Canova, S.D.) had 71 yards on 16 carries.

 Freshman Spencer Neugebauer (Mitchell, S.D.) led the Tiger receivers with six catches for 37 yards. Lewis Hofer (Onida, S.D.) added four catches for 41 yards.

 Defensively, Bailey Schriever (Harrisburg, S.D.) recorded 10 total tackles, a forced fumble and two pass breakups. Tyrel Haley (Winner, S.D.) added seven tackles, an interception and a pass breakup, while Emmanuel Christopher (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had four tackles, three tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a sack.

 The Tigers (4-4, 2-3 GPAC) host Briar Cliff University for a GPAC battle at 1 p.m. Saturday at Joe Quintal Field in Mitchell.
