MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's golf team competed in the Midland Matches bringing home a fifth-place finish Saturday at the Oakland Golf Club in Oakland, Neb.
The Tigers squared off with Doane in the first match for DWU, dropping the tiebreaker as Doane University played the fewest holes giving them the advantage.
DWU battled Northwestern College in Match 4, defeating the Red Raiders to move onto the fifth place match.
Russell Pick (Kimball, S.D.),
Thomas Hogg (Aberdeen, S.D.) and
Connor Preston (Aberdeen, S.D.) picked up wins over Northwestern.
In the final match of the day, the Tigers defeated Iowa Western Community College as
Coleman Caldwell (Chamberlain, S.D.), Pick,
Michael Whitney (Brandon, S.D.) and Preston tallied wins over their opponents.
Doane went on to win the event, defeating Dordt College.
The event was split into two eight-team brackets and cut to three matches due to weather.
The Tigers return to action at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Qualifier Oct. 3 at the Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D.
