DAKOTA WESLEYAN EDGES PRESENTATION, SECURES DECISIVE GOAL IN 81ST MINUTE

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over in-state foe Presentation College in Great Plains Athletic Conference action on Wednesday from the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D. A goal by Jabari Campbell (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) in the 81st minute proved to be the decisive game-winning goal delivering Dakota Wesleyan the home match win. 

DWU opened the match with a shot on goal by Rafael Calderon (Talca, Chile) while Ronaldo Acosta (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) attempted a corner kick in the eighth minute. While neither opportunity produced a chance to score, the match saw its first goal in the 15th minute as Tiger (3-11-0, 2-5-0 GPAC) left back Calderon found the back of the net and Dakota Wesleyan garnered a 1-0 lead.

A late pair of shots by Campbell, though saved, ended the first half as the Blue and Gray took the one-goal lead into the locker room. Dakota Wesleyan finished with 13 shots in the period and a pair of corner kicks.

After an opportunity on goal by DWU senior Grant Pierce (Safford, Ariz.) to open the second period, Presentation scored the equalizer in the 56th minute evening the match at 1-1.

Corner kicks by Lucas Paixao (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Cesar Requena (Lima, Peru) in the 75th and 80th minutes, respectively ultimate gave the Tigers a chance on goal in the 81st minute. Campbell, who registered three shots in the match, scored off an assist by Barry-Dre Tibbetts (Cayman Islands, Cayman Islands) and Dakota Wesleyan came away with the 2-1 victory.

Garrett Douglas (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who made the start in the net, along with Hunter Birozy (Norco, Calif.) earned the victory with a pair of saves. Senior left back Tyler Anderson (Monticello, Minn.) chipped in three shots as well helping Dakota Wesleyan to the home win over the Saints (1-9-0, 0-7-0 GPAC).  

The Tigers return to the pitch next versus in-state rival Mount Marty University as DWU celebrates senior day festivities at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday from the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
